Tech Talk
OK NASCAR fans, before you read this sit down. I’m going to shock you this month. There is another style of racing and yes, it turns both left and right. Yes, you probably didn’t know racing can turn right, but in the world of the American Le Mans Series that is exactly what happens. Left, right, up, down, domestic cars, foreign cars, faster cars, slower cars, its wild and furious. This is where our beloved Corvette gets its racing reputation.
So this month a brief tutorial
- There are 12 circuits: Sebring, St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Houston, Salt Lake, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Mosport, Detroit, Road Atlanta (Oct road trip), and Laguna Seca.
- Manufacturers include: Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Chevy, Ferrari, Ford, Jaguar, Mazda, Mercedes, Panoz and Porsche…..ya world class car builders. (BMW will debut its new M3 at Road Atlanta this Oct). I’ll be there for sure.
- 4 classes of cars:
- LMP1: 600-700 HP, 0-100 in 3 seconds, speeds > 200mph
- LMP2: 500-550 HP, speeds 180 -200 mph
- GT1: 600-650 hp, speeds 180-195 mph (Corvette races here)
- GT2: 450-500 hp, speeds up to 180 mph
- LMP1: 600-700 HP, 0-100 in 3 seconds, speeds > 200mph
- All classes race together, makes the race very exciting to watch
- Corvette has dominated GT1……rivalry with Aston Martin
- Corvette drivers: Oliver Beretta (Most career wins of all GT1 drivers), Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnusson, Ron Fellows, Johnny O’Connell
- And of course the pinnacle of all racing, the 24 hours of Le Mans (now this is a road trip, France and then off to drive the Nurenburgring Germany)
Next month we can review extended warranties, I can hardly wait.
