Frank and Peggy Shaffer - I got my first Corvette shortly after joining the Air Force, a red '68 convertible. I only owned it about 9 months when I was suddenly shipped to Nam. I didn't want my bother-in-law "watching it" for me so I sold it. After that life got in the way and I didn't own another one until I ran the gambit of used foreign sport cars, TR3, three Z cars, 911, 924, something called a Honda SP600 and three Miatas. Finally I woke up and realized that the one true sport car was built right here in America.

Peggy transferred to Warner Robins in 1987 moving from Ohio with her daughter, two cats, a lab and a hamster. She loves animals and worked for years running the website for the Cherokee County Humane Society.

We met at a road race I was directing (running) in 1988. She wanted to help by being one of the timers at the first mile marker. When I ran past her she screamed out 5:04 and figured surely she was wrong. After the race she came explaining that she thinks she messed up. I told her no, that her watch was correct and the rest is history.

Peggy is retired from Robins and I from the Air Force and most recently I retired from Lockheed/Martin. We moved back to Warner Robins over two years ago when I took a position with the C-130J. We got involved in Corvettes after our running days were over due to health reasons. I spent the good part of thirty years running. My last three years in the Air Force I ran professionally for the AF and Brooks International, which had me running a marathon about every two weeks. After retiring from the Air Force I wrote a weekly column called "Downhill Running" for over ten years in the Daily Sun (maybe why they shut down) and a monthly page in Running Magazine. We purchased an '85 Red Coupe which we used mainly as a show car. Finally in 2003 when both my kids graduated from college I was able to fulfill my dream and buy a brand new Corvette. The color? Why red, what else?
