July 20, 2008 Business Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 10 am by President John Glover who welcomed members and visitors. 

Announcements:

Name tags previously ordered are available for pickup.  New name tags ordered will be $6.00 according to Debbie.

Liz Dean has Corvette merchandise for sale.  See her at the end of the meeting.

Vice President Cliff Dube announced July birthdays and anniversaries and recognized those present celebrating either.

Carol Hoopes introduced Cindy who is raising money for a kidney transplant and would appreciate the members help in some of the fund raising efforts particularly the car show planned for September 6, 2008 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Kmart on Watson Blvd.  The club agreed to make the car show a club sanctioned event.

Secretary Judy Hall read the minutes of the June meeting which were posted too late to be read by club members.  Motion made by Fred Horky, seconded by Jim Fleming to accept. Motion carried.

Treasurer Karen Wallace presented the treasurer’s report for June 2008.  A motion was made by Al Hemstreet with second by Chris Albritton.  Motion carried.

Activities report was given by Fred Horky in the absence of Jean Baker who is on vacation. Activities are posted on the website.

Wednesday July 23rd – “Karen Wallace’s Surprise Cruise” will be the Mandarin Chinese Restaurant (3086 Riverside Drive, Macon: it’s right where Northside Drive splits off from Riverside.)  We’ll be served great Chinese (not buffet) and share our usual Corvette Camaraderie!  Warner Robins members meet at the Galleria Mall at 6:15, to convoy to Macon at 6:30; or meet us there at 7 PM. 

Saturday July 26th – We’re all invited to a BBQ and pool party at the home of Alan and Joan Ritzer.  The club will be providing the meat dish.  If you didn’t sign up or have questions about what to bring as a side dish,  beverage, etc.; please call Allan or Joan at 922-2531.  Don’t forget folding chairs, sunscreen, etc: it’s July in Georgia!  Meet there at 3 PM.  More details and map later.

August

Friday August 1st – Last day to make CLCG block reservation at Super 8 near the NCM, for 14th Annual Corvette Reunion at Bowling Green on Labor Day weekend: see listing at the bottom of this month’s calendar.  Don’t dally too late!

Saturday August 2nd – Monday August 4th – CANCELLATION: our cruise to Graceland in Memphis has been cancelled for this year

Saturday August 2nd “SuperVette Saturday” @ Day’s Chevrolet, Acworth GA.  Sponsored by Classic Glass Corvette Club (Marietta).  Friday (August1st) features a “sock hop” ice breaker.  For event flyer, info on event hotel, etc.; go to http://www.cgcorvetteclub.com/2008_Events.htm and click on August 2nd info link We need a max effort to support Saturday’s show to encourage THEM to come to OUR event in November

Sunday August 3rd – Activities Committee Meeting to plan future events – back room at Sonny’s BBQ in W-R; Eat at 6 PM, Meet at 7 PM. 

Sunday August 7th – Cruise Night to recently expanded Meldino’s Pizzeria, in the former Allen’s Stone Baked Pizza at 103 Gunn Road in Centerville, behind Galleria Mall.  Great food with lots of choices besides just pizzas: sandwiches, calzone, etc.!  Meet there at 7 PM.

Sunday 10, 17, 24 & 31st – Informal Sunday Corvette Cruise Nights are CHANGED to be inside the COOL “Bar-B-Cutie” …the former Backyard Burger on Watson Blvd in front of Walmart Plaza in Warner Robins. Drive your ‘vette, meet there at 6 PM.

Saturday August 16th  –  Regular monthly CLCG meeting at yet ANOTHER location: we’re still sampling for a possible PERMANENT location.  This month we’ll meet at Ryan’s Steakhouse on Watson Blvd in Warner Robins.  Arrive at about 9 AM for Ryan’s famous breakfast buffet, our meeting starts at 10.  CAUTION: if you care for the air dam on your ‘vette (and your nerves as well) DO NOT use steep main driveway, but turn into Woodcrest Blvd (the next street WEST) and park together in Ryan’s UPPER parking lot.  

Saturday August 16th   AFTER our meeting, we’ll have our 2008 BBQ, Boating, Swimming, and Corvette Camaraderie Outing at the Lake Sinclair home of Al & Helen Hemstreet.  Bring your swimsuits and folding chairs!  The club will provide the meat dish; please RSVP with Helen and Al at pacecar78@bellsouth.net if you haven’t already coordinated what you’ll bring to the party: beverages, salad, veggies, desert, etc.  We’ll meet at Galleria Mall at 1:15 and depart at 1:30 PM for the lake.  Maps to Al’s lake retreat will be sent by e-message in advance.

Saturday, August 23rd  12th annual Al Sihah Shriner’s Klassic Auto & Motorcycle Show; 222 Mecca Drive in Macon.  A MAJOR event with professional judging.  It’s all for a great cause with proceeds benefiting the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and Children’s Transportation Fund.  Pre-register for $20, or at event $25 from 8:30 to noon.  Free admission to public.  Call Larry Spires 972-8735 for details.

Friday August 29th – Monday September 1st  – the National Corvette Museum’s 14th Annual Corvette Celebration in Bowling Green, KY.  The biggest NCM event of the year!  See http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/celebration/info.shtml to register for the event.  Marie Stover has blocked rooms at $69.95 (+ tax) in the nearby Super 8 (great place, SUPER location), but YOU need to make YOUR reservations by AUGUST 1st.  Limited Number of rooms left: call 270-781-4900; rooms reserved under “CLCG”.  Remember AUGUST 1st CUTOFF!

September

Saturday Sept 6th – “Show ‘n Shine” Car Show to help raise desperately needed funds for Cindy’s Kidney Transplant.  Show 10 to 3 in the K-Mart parking lot on Watson Blvd for all cars; in fact anything on wheels.  This is a laid-back fun event to help a young lady in desperate need: if you have questions please call CLCG member Carol Hoopes at 988-4661.

Sunday Sept 7th – Activities Committee Meeting to plan future events – W-R Sonny’s BBQ back room.  Eat at 6 PM, meet at 7 PM.

Sunday Sept 7th, 14th, 21st, & 28th – Informal Corvette Cruise Nights now at the “Bar-B-Cutie” (the former Backyard Burger on Watson Blvd in front of Walmart Plaza) in Warner Robins. Drive your ‘vette, meet there at 6 PM.

Sept 16 – Seafood Cruise night to Pier 97 in Warner Robins, on Watson Blvd across from K-Mart. Meet there at 7 PM

Saturday Sept 20th  –  Regular monthly CLCG meeting!  10 -11 AM.  Location TBA.

Saturday September 20th – Masonic Lodge Car Show.  The Mickey Fuller Lodge (106 Gra-Lan Drive in Byron) is sponsoring this show.  More details TBA

September 20th – 27th – SEVEN DAY Western Caribbean cruise on the good ship Carnival GLORY.  This is one really BIG BOAT (see http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/ships/carnival_glory/default.aspx?shipCode=GL) with LOTS of stuff to do.  (You might want to take a big ball of string to tie to the door knob so you can find your way home.)  A number of couples have already signed up.  Contact Karen Carbone at Delta Sky Miles Cruises 1-800-820-3244 ext 82575 and mention you’re with CLCG.  Military or past Carnival discounts/upgrades may be available.  Contact Allan Ritzer at 922-2531 with questions, or to make arrangements to be seated at dinner with the funnest group on the boat: it’s a fact that “CLCG Cruises” are ALWAYS a lot of fun…

Wednesday-Saturday Oct 1st – 4th   11th Annual Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta!  This is the heavy-hitter event where the Big Boys will be running C6R’s, Bentleys, and all sorts of exotic (and very noisy) machinery!  A number of our members will be going for the big event for at least part of the weekend; why not consider joining them?  Tickets and space will be at a premium: start planning early…see http://www.roadatlanta.com/ev_petit.lasso

October 5th – Activities Committee Meeting to plan future events – Sonny’s BBQ back room.  Eat at 6 PM, Meeting at 7 PM. Sunday 5th, 12th, 19th & 26th – Informal CLCG Sunday Cruise Nights are now at the “Bar-B-Cutie” on Watson Blvd in Warner Robins. Drive your ‘vette, meet there at 6 PM.

Friday October 10th  –  CLCG will again run the Friday evening Poker Run kicking off the Museum of Aviation’s annual Wings & Wheels weekend!.  We still need a few volunteers to help with the run, park cars at Hooters, etc.  If you haven’t helped before, it’s a barrel of fun!  More details later.

Saturday October 11th  –  Wings N' Wheels Car Show at the Museum of Aviation.  Volunteers needed, more details later.

Saturday October 18th  –  Regular monthly CLCG meeting!  10 -11 AM.  Please stay for lunch with us if you can.

NCM Ambassador Carl Stover gave a report on NCM activities including the NCM event taking place in Perry in November 2008.

Hole Sponsors for the golf tournament are still needed.  The cost is $250 per hole with no limit on number of sponsors per hole.

A motion was made by Bert Karlman and seconded for the CLCG to be a hole sponsor at a cost of $250.  Motion carried.

August business meeting will be on the 16th at Ryan’s Steak House on Watson Blvd in Warner Robins.  Breakfast is available before the 10 am meeting.  Meeting and breakfast will be in the back room.  The club is invited to Al and Helen Hemstreet’s lake house at Lake Sinclair for fun and food.  Meet at the Galleria Parking lot at 1:15 pm, leave at 1:30 or just show up at the Hemstreet’s lake house at 3 pm. (map to be sent in email before meeting).

Proposed by-law change presented by John Glover:

Article VI, Section 2  - Motion made by Bert Karlman with second by Fred Horky to accept the change as presented by the BOD.  Motion carried.

The new SOP for Board of Directors Member at Large presented.  Motion made by Frank Shaffer with second by Al Hemstreet to accept.  Motion carried.

A motion was made by Carol Hoopes with second by Fred Horky to place the amount of $1,000 in the budget for planned charity donations to be divided among four charities (Cherished Children, Alzheimer’s, Cystic Fibrosis and St Jude’s) recommended by the Board.  Motion carried.

Frank Shaffer asked for volunteers for October Poker Run.  Susan White asked for volunteer homes for the December Tour of Homes.

Winner of the 50/50 drawing of $37.50 was Larry Israel.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 upon motion by Al Hemstreet with second by Fred Horky.
